Course Program

HBIGS has implemented a PhD program that combines the benefits of the traditional individual PhD with a structured interdisciplinary teaching program covering the entire life science spectrum. Recognizing that a growing number of doctoral researchers after graduation will take up positions beyond academia, HBIGS also organizes a career development course program and complementary skills trainings. Some of the 40+ courses, workshops, and seminars HBIGS offers every year are organized in cooperation with our partners from various business branches.

In accordance with the rules stipulated by the Faculty of Biosciences of Heidelberg University and to monitor the curricular work load of the PhD students in a transparent way we have implemented a Credit Point system according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The minimum requirement of a PhD student’s total workload in the accompanying training program during the PhD term is 15 Credit Points (CP).
Credit points can e.g. be collected in training modules, either offered by HBIGS (e.g. practical courses, seminars, complementary skills trainings, or summer schools) or other institutions, such as Research Training Groups, the Graduate Academy or Core Facilities of Heidelberg University.

Click on the links below to view the schedules of currently running Scientific courses and Career development courses. Booking of HBIGS courses is possible for HBIGS members only.

HBIGS PhD students who wish their participation in courses, trainings, scientific meetings or other activities taken outside HBIGS to be accredited are requested to fill in the “external course notification” form and send the document to r.lutz@hbigs.uni-heidelberg.de
