Octoberfest 2014 - 31st October
Dear HBIGS students, We have the pleasure to invite you to the traditional HBIGS Oktoberfest Party, this year in an unexpected format. The scariest party of the year!!! Blood thirsty Vampires and beer thirsty Bavarians, all together! HBIGS Oktoberfest on Halloween See you all on 31st of October at the HBIGS Center, from 7pm (till there's no more beer). Brezels and Fleischkase will also be served. Traditional Trachten (Lederhosen and Dirndls) are welcomed, as well as Halloween costumes, carved pumpkins and trick-or-treat. HBIGS Movie Night - 22nd September
Dear HBIGS-Students, The next HBIGS event is pending on Monday, 22th of september! 8pm! This time we are going to watch a movie in the HBIGS building - and of course there will be beer and pizza for free. Mark the day in your calendar and make sure that you won't miss it! Beach Volleyball - August 2014
Friends from HBIGS, and from whereever else! When the weather turns sunny, here in HD, however briefly, it's time for Beachvolleyball! The 3rd Heidelberg PhD Beachvolleyball Cup took place on Sunday 10th of August at the ISSW Beachvolleyball fields (INF 720)! Hobby-players are always more than welcome, this is not a hardcore sports competition, but an occasion to spend a Sunday with friends, enjoying the sun, volleyball and delicious BBQ food and drinks! Participants received cool gimmicks, such as own volleyball and team shirts, food at the catering stand, and the winners an awesome prize in the end! HBIGS had two wonderful teams representing us at the competition: "Essential elements" lead by Ali Ghamen and HBIGS two lead by Mathias Becker. They did very good, but most importantly enjoyed the competition! HBIGS kindly supported the Registration as well as food and drinks for the members of the teams. Also without registration everyone was welcomed to join, cheer, eat, drink and enjoy the day!

Frankfurt am! Here we go! – Student Retreat July 2014
As every year, the beginning of summer is the time to take a break and go for a weekend with the HBIGS PhD student retreat!
This is not only an opportunity for PhD students to have some wonderful time together, but also to reflect on our work and our research.
It is easy to get caught in a small field of interest and forget the big picture. Thus the key goals of the HBIGS student retreat are to bring together students from different topics in molecular and cellular biology, to share their ideas and results, to talk about science and not only; to learn a bit more about other fields of study, to network, interact and have fun, establish new collaborations and new friendships...

Dragonboatrace July 2014
We are ready to set up the team for the dragon boat race!
Following the 2000 year old tradition of Chinese villagers, we will race on paddle boats decorated as dragons on distances of 250-300m against other Heidelberg companies and organizations. The team is composed of 18 rowers and 1 drummer, including at least 6 girls!
You should know how to swim and not be afraid of getting wet.
Next Wednesday we meet in the HBIGS seminar room for discussing the technique, the team name and everything else. On 29th of June we have our training session and on the 5th of July we will meet for the race!
Note: Since we are only allowed to have one training session this year, please only sign up when you are able to attend to all three dates.
